Women’s Sport Is Evolving. And Nutrition Must Evolve With It
Recently, the Calleva Nutrition team had the pleasure of attending the Women in Sport Breakfast, hosted by Somerset County Cricket Club as part of the In-Field Business Club. The event brought together leaders from across women’s sport to discuss the rapid growth and professionalisation of the women’s game, driven in part by the recent success and increased visibility of women’s football and rugby.
Throughout the discussion, the panel explored how women’s sport is evolving at every level — from elite performance environments to the importance of building strong grassroots pathways for girls’ and women’s teams. There was also clear recognition of a shift in audiences, engagement and commercial interest, highlighting how women’s sport is no longer an emerging sector, but a fast-moving and increasingly influential one.
What This Means for Nutrition and Supplement Brands
Naturally, as developers and manufacturers of nutrition products, our attention turned to how these changes are reshaping the nutrition and supplement landscape. As participation, visibility and performance demands continue to rise, the need for considered, evidence-led nutrition tailored to the specific needs of women becomes more critical than ever.
Women’s health, performance and recovery require a different approach. Not only in terms of formulation, but also in ingredient selection, dosage, format and functionality. Areas such as energy availability, recovery support, bone and joint health, hormonal balance and long-term wellbeing are increasingly central to the conversation, both in sport and in the wider health supplement market.
How Calleva Nutrition Supports Tailored Product Development
At Calleva Nutrition, we are not a white-label supplier. We believe strongly that one size does not fit all. Whether that’s across different consumer groups, life stages, or health and performance goals.
Our in-house New Product Development team works closely with brands to develop and manufacture bespoke nutrition solutions across all supplement categories. From performance and recovery products to women’s health, active nutrition, functional wellness and emerging health trends, we help our partners translate science-led insight into products that are relevant, differentiated and fit for purpose.
This collaborative approach allows brands to:
-
Tailor formulations to specific consumer and athlete needs
-
Adapt products in line with the latest scientific research
-
Innovate within growing categories such as women’s health and wellbeing
-
Future-proof product ranges as the market continues to evolve
Looking Ahead
The growth of women’s sport is a powerful reminder that nutrition must evolve alongside it. As expectations increase and the market matures, brands that prioritise tailored, evidence-based solutions will be best placed to support performance, health and long-term wellbeing.
We’d like to thank Somerset CCC for hosting such a valuable event, and the panellists from Bristol Bears Women, Team Bath Netball, Somerset Women and Bishops Lydeard AFC for sharing their insights. Conversations like these are essential as we look ahead to the future of women’s sport and the role nutrition plays within it.
